Over the last week, Jordan has been bombarding me with questions about politics and the election process. Evidently, this is a popular topic at school. In fact, when we were at a pizza party with his baseball team last week, I overheard one of his teammates ask another teammate "McCain or Obama?" It seemed like a funny question for an 8 year old. But even stranger was the fact that they had a brief discussion on the topic.
While I feel that I managed to thoroughly confuse Jordan on the subject of the popular vote versus the electoral college, I like to think that he learned a little something from me... that being, maybe you should ask your teacher how the process works because I really don't know.
In any case, today their school held a mock election. They had a discussion about the candidates and the voting process and at the end of the lesson, each student got to cast his/her vote. When the boys came home, I asked Joseph who he voted for. He told me "Obama". For some reason, this really surprised me. (not that I have any reason to believe that he has already chosen a political affiliation or that he has a strong opinion on the subject). Curious as to what he liked about Obama, I asked him why. He told me "because his running mate is named Joe". Can't argue with that.
Since I am not one to discuss politics, that will be as much as I have to share on the subject. I will also share that Jordan's first tournament with the Eagles went very well. They won 1 game and lost 2. That is better than we ever did with the Tornadoes, so we aren't complaining. He was very nervous, which is unusual for him. But on the second day, he seemed a lot more comfortable out on the field and did really well. Next weekend, they will be playing in the Southern Zone tournament and then the tournament season should slow down a bit until after the holidays.
Joseph & Jared, on the other hand, have 3 more weeks of baseball before they are finished. The season was pushed back because of damage to the ballpark from Hurricane Ike. While we have enjoyed the season, we are looking forward to it ending. The long nights are hard on all of us and with the time change, it is going to be even harder. But the boys are having fun, which is a good thing because each of their teams have only won only 1 game. That's a bummer but we still have a chance to win a few more.
Well, it is late and I am having a hard time adjusting to this time change, myself. So I am heading off to bed. Have a great day! One last thing... doesn't Joe just have the sweetest face? I love that little guy!
And if you are interested in the voting results from the student elections, here is the website that hosted it. I will be interested to see how the actual results match up.
