I'm a Cover Girl!!!!

If you didn't know, I have done a lot of freelance work for Paper Crafts over the last two years.  It is pretty much the only scrapbooking I ever seem to do these days and I wouldn't even do that much if I didn't have deadlines to work with.  While I have enjoyed my success there, the one thing I have aspired to accomplish was having one of my projects on the cover and it has finally happened!  I think it is kind of funny because this card (with the rings) is probably one of the last projects I would have picked but it just goes to show that you never know what they are looking for.  So to those of you who are submitting and frustrated, just keep trying.  All it takes is one editor to like you and doors will open up.  Not that I have come even close to making a career out of scrapbooking.  But I have done well enough to keep my housekeeper coming every other week!  I don't know about you, but I will take scrapbooking over toilet scrubbing any day of the week.  :)

Not much else is going on here. It is a very cold and rainy day which is unusual for Houston (the cold part, anyway).  The only plus I can find to this weather is that I have the house to myself for a few hours and when I am done catching up on blogs and e-mail, I plan to take a nice little nap (until 1:50 when the kindergarteners are let loose, at which time, I will be dispensing the valium).

Last but not least, I am counting down to Friday, which will be the commencement of Shopfest '08.  Karen is coming into town and we have big plans.  I was joking with her on the phone last month and told her she should come out for the CK convention which is coming to Houston for the first time ever.  She looked at her calendar and found that it is a holiday on Monday so she booked a flight.  That just goes to prove... it never hurts to ask.  Our itinerary includes checking out the convention, a visit to the Galleria, Ikea (she has never been) and a movie.  I am not sure how much more we can fit into our agenda but I am pretty sure that any downtime will also include some internet shopping.  It should be a lot of fun and completely counterproductive to my resolution of not buying anything I don't need.  However, I have decided that it doesn't count when I am with Karen because we don't get to shop together all that much and it really would be insensitive of me to make her fly all the way out here and do all of the shopping while I just idly stood by.  That's what a good friend would do.  Right?

Bicycle Built for Two

Happy Friday!!!  Not a lot going on here.  We have been busy with school and baseball.  Not much time for anything else.  We got the schedules for the season last night.  I will scan it and post it later.  Let's just say, we will be spending a lot of time at the ballpark.  (not that we don't already).  Jordan was supposed to have a tournament this weekend.  They cancelled it due to lack of participation.  I can tell you that I am not heartbroken.  I like the thought of a fairly quiet weekend.

Here is another layout I did last week.  Lance's friend, Mike, gave him this tandem bicycle to use with the boys.  Joe absolutely loves it.  He can pedal if he wants but he doesn't have to.  To say the least, it makes for a good workout for Lance.  LOL.  Have a great weekend!

Attack of Garfield Kitty

I am happy to say that I have actually been scrapping lately.  It is nice to be back in a little bit of a routine with school and Lance's work.  I am also happy to report that Lance will be home tonight.  He has been gone for 5 days so it will be nice to have him back if even for just 2 days.

Anyway, I did this page last night.  I took the picture a couple days ago.  It just cracked me up how Garfield Kitty was laying on top of him.  Well, we are off to school.  Yippee!!!  Have a great day!

Friday!

I am not sure why I felt compelled to place an exclamation point at the end of the word Friday because Friday is pretty much the same as every other day around here (particularly during the summer).  We haven't been up to much.  Lance has worked A LOT this week.  He is home for today and then back out for another 4 day trip.  I remember enjoying his trips a lot more when I didn't have 3 children who woke up at 6:30 a.m.  Really, if I didn't witness giving birth to them, I might question if they are really our children.  Lance and I both enjoy sleeping and you would think that the odds would favor us having at least one child who enjoyed sleep, as well.  I am sure they will become sleepers about the time they start high school and they have to be there at 7:00 in the morning!

Anyway, just wanted to say hi and wish everyone a great weekend!  We may go to the pool today.  Or I may just clean up this mess.  Or I may just stare at my computer for the entire day.  Can you believe I didn't turn on Spider Solitaire all day yesterday?  I"m not sure if I can make it two days in a row, though.  However, I did find a fun new t.v. show last night. It is the World Series of Pop Culture on VH1.  I was impressed with my knowledge but I am not sure I could have won.  Anyone else seen this?

Paper Crafts Aug/Sep 2006

I just got my latest issue of Paper Crafts with an awesome Chatterbox Memory Building kit. woo hoo!  For this issue, they asked me to make two cards using this paper from Sassafrass Lass.  The assignment wouldn't be so odd if I wasn't asked to make one of the cards look like an A-line skirt.  Believe it or not, I love how the card turned out.  In fact, it's one of my favorite designs ever.  However, I should note that they asked me to take the waistline in a bit which I think looks funny.  I don't remember the last time I owned a skirt with a waistline that small.  ha!  The other card just had to use the funky retro pattern.  It was challenging but really I like the result, as well.

If you want to save your $4.99 (plus gas), so that you don't have to purchase the magazine, I'll post my cards here for you.  But if you want product lists and instructions, you're gonna have to subscribe.  ;)  Sorry that the phogographs are so dark. 

And if you are wondering... I'm up to 5 wins and 55 losses.  And no, I haven't finished my other cards yet.  I swear I am going to do them today!  I think.  Have a great day!!!
