On day two, it was time to play our first game and the boys were ready to go! They came out at 10:00 a.m. to play the Naperville White Sox and they took care of business... swiftly. Gage pitched a great game allowing only 2 hits, one run and striking out 4 batters. Obviously the rest of our defense did their part to help with the the other 8 outs.
While the bats started out slow, they caught on fire in the third inning - scoring 4 runs and following up in the 4th inning with 5 more to end the game. The game lasted just 45 minutes! I guess the boys were ready to head back to the dorm to hang out. This was their only game because we were going to the CWS game later in the day.
The team arrived at Ameritrade Park a few hours later to take in all of the CWS festivities. Coach Lance took the boys in to the Fan Fest section where they got to play games and check out all of the vendors. Jared participated in the Lip Synch battle where he (pretend) belted out his best rendition of Adele's Hello. Unfortunately, due to copyright issues, they will not allow me to post the video online. But I can tell you, Jared earned his prize which was a $20 gift certificate for the fan shop!
The game itself was Game 2 of the Championship series between the Arizona Wildcats and Coastal Carolina. No one knew who Coastal Carolina was before the series began but they knew when it was over. These guys came out of nowhere to beat some favorites. They were already down one game going into this elimination game but they managed to keep fighting and ended the day with a victory. They would go on to win Game 3 and the Championship!
